 Bimjo's outer bevel presets

The Original Files

These presets are intended for use with a white background, unless otherwise noted. White text is used in the examples, but any color you like is suitable. These presets change the background color of the original graphic to those shown in the examples.

Because these presets work more or less backwards from what you might be used to (you apply them to the background instead of the text), step-by-step instructions are available on how to apply the outer bevel presets, how to "clip" the text, and how to place it on a different color background. It's a bit labor intensive, but I think it's worth the effort.

You can download all the Bimjo outer bevel presets in one file if you'd like.

bimjo_outbevel.zip

This is the first preset I created. I had tried the excellent outbevel preset at State of Entropy, but was looking for a slightly different effect. This was the result.

bimjo_outbevel2.zip

Not ready to leave well enough alone, I experimented a bit and came up with this version.

bimjo_outbevel3.zip

Not being happy with the second effort, further experimentation resulted in this preset. Now, this one shows some promise. It's colorful, and sort of reminds me of bubblegum.

bimjo_outbevel4.zip

This one is closer to the first preset, but has a slight blue cast with green highlights. Much better than my second effort.

bimjo_outbevel5.zip

I sort of went off the deep end with this preset. It just kept changing until it more-or-less took on a life of its own.

bimjo_outbevel_ghost.zip

This was an attempt to create a DYMO label text look. With the right font and font color, it comes pretty close. This would work well for navigation buttons for the right site theme.

bimjo_outbevel_ghost_green.zip

Simply a color variation of the ghost preset.

bimjo_outbevel_orange_grove.zip

I was in the grocery store last winter and there was a display of oranges, which got me thinking of warmer climates. This preset served to warm me up, at least mentally.

bimjo_outbevel_b_gum.zip

A slight variation of outbevel3 polished that bubble gum look by capturing that wet look shine. I think this is my favorite preset, maybe it'll be one of yours.

bimjo_outbevel_shiny3.zip

This one was intended to emulate Mardi Wesmore's great shiny bevel preset on text. This is the third effort. The first two (shown below) are for colored backgrounds. Amongst the three, one should suit your needs.

These next two presets are intended to be used with a colored background. Of course, you can apply any of them to any color background you choose, but be aware that except for bimjo_outbevel_shiny, all will alter the original background color.

bimjo_outbevel_shiny.zip

This preset holds pretty true to your original background color. It works well with the brighter colors.

bimjo_outbevel_shiny2.zip

This preset works a little bit better with lighter colored backgrounds. It subdues the original color compared to bimjo_outbevel_shiny.

From these initial examples, I moved on to the second generation of Bimjo Outer Bevel Presets.

Man, this page looks so... sucky!

Yep, because all the formatting on the page is controlled by CSS. You can still see everything the site has to offer, it just looks, well... sucky. You can live with it, or you can do something about it. Assuming you have control over your browser selection and the hardware necessary to upgrade.

If you are looking for alternative browsers that are standards compliant, webstandards.org has a number of options for you to explore. So, go ahead, see what this site really looks like.
